WHAT TO EXPECT

“The physician should not treat the disease, but the person suffering from it” - Maimonides

The beauty of acupuncture is that it is individualized medicine.  We treat each patient as a completely unique person and customize every treatment to their specific desires and health goals.  Depending on the person’s needs, we include moxibustion, gua sha, cupping, essential oils, herbal therapy, and/or Chinese medical nutrition in our treatments.

What Should I Know Before My Acupuncture Treatment?

Patients should come in loose fitted clothing that can easily roll up to their elbows and knees.  It is also best to eat something before treatment.  If you forgot, just let us know and we’re happy to share our delicious snacks with you.  All treatments last between 40-60 minutes.

Every treatment begins with an intake going over health history where we record relevant information about your general health and wellness.  We like to know about your bowel movements, menstrual cycle, sleep quality, and stress levels.  We care about the details, so don’t be shy!

What Happens During An Acupuncture Treatment?

We might ask to look at your tongue, a diagnostic tool we use that doubles as a great party trick.  Tongue diagnosis gives us information such as the level of inflammation in the body, we can even use it to predict your cycle.  We may also feel your radial pulse, telling us information about your constitution.  Tongue and pulse diagnosis help us treat the root cause of why you are experiencing these symptoms.  That way, not only your symptoms will clear but you will be a renewed fresh you!

Nervous about being cold or uncomfortable on the table?  Our infrared light therapy lamps and memory foam heating pads have you covered! Trust us, you’ll be snug as a bug in a rug.

Most patients fall asleep on the table and find acupuncture extremely relaxing and sedative.

What Comes After My Acupuncture Treatment?

All of our patients get complimentary ear seeds at the end of treatment to keep the good vibes flowing all week long until their next treatment.

Treatment frequency depends on each individual case, but we will have a good idea of this after the first intake.  Typically patients who are in acute pain need 2 treatments a week for 4-6 weeks and then we move to 1 treatment a week until they no longer need treatment.  Patients who are in less pain need fewer treatments.  Although we love our patients, our goal is for them to move on and not need us!  Because acupuncture is preventative, we recommend our healthy patients come in once a month or seasonally for immune-boosting tune-ups.
